About the EM-CITY Project

All Europe is going through an extraordinary emergency issue in these days. One of the obstacles during the emergency activities was limited communication among different groups of people living in the local area together. And in case of an emergency, it is not easy always to include all these groups in an emergency plan at the same level. This include both young and elderly people, families, Culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities, long-time residents, and so on.

Considering this need we designed EM-CITY project to promote social cohesion among different groups in the local communities in case of emergency, recognizing that young people, if properly sensitized and involved, can play a pivotal role in facilitating these relations.

C.C.I. is a new N.G.O., a non-profit organization which is made out of the necessity of creating a civil protection culture by intervened actions., established on 16th January 2020.

European University Cyprus (EUC) was founded in 2007 and developed out of Cyprus College, which was established in 1961.

Innogo Language, Science, Idea Workshop – Turkiye

Innogo was established in 2019 and has three interrelated fields of activities: project management, education consultancy, interior architecture, and design.

Activities

Mapping

Project activities will start with a mapping, understanding (and future plans) of group Dynamics and interactions in the local area in an emergency by the anthropological research/action research/ethnographic research.

Practices

Based on this, a set of good practices, indications and suggestions for “fostering interactive processes between different groups of communities during emergencies, by the active involvement of youth volunteers” will be developed.

Training

A training activity for youth volunteers, age 18-30, will be organized in each project country, aiming to provide them improved knowledge ans skills, responding to the needs of possible future emergency situations (we plan to train about 25 people for each territory).

Open-Access

Training experience will also contribute to finalized the EMCITY webportal; an open-access digital tool that can be used during emergency periods in order to cope with the negative effects of those emergency incidents and reach CALD and non-CALD communities.

Training Activity

Project activities will also include an international learning teaching training activity that will be held in Cyprus and will give opportunity to 20 young people to improve their skills of teamwork in emergency situations.

Events

Furthermore, we will implement 2 multiplier events: first one in Turkey as “Emergency Awareness with Stakeholders Day” and second one in Greece as Final Conference of EM-CITY Project (International Conference on Emergency Management, Civil Protection, and CALD Communities).

Results

Increased involvement of youth/leaders of different local communities in dialogues/interactions on how to face emergencies and cooperating with other local groups (CALD and non-CALD communities, CP operators, local authorities, youth, etc.)

A group of sensibilized and trained youth that will then be able to act as “interactive bridges/junctions” between local communities, CP operators and local authorities during emergencies Availability of a new and tested methodology, useful for the dialogue and fostering interactive processes between different groups of communities during emergencies, by the active involvement of youth volunteers.
